The Norfolk Tides fell to the Charlotte Knights (White Sox AAA) last night by a close score of 4-3. Despite the team falling to 1-3, they still played a solid baseball game all around.

First off, they did not have a single error. After committing 10 errors during Opening Weekend, a 2-1 series loss to the Durham Bulls (Rays AAA), the defense played a clean 24 outs last night.

Offensively, the rehabbing Gunnar Henderson continued red hot with the bat. He demolished a solo home run in the top of the third inning off a hanging curveball from Justin Dunn. At the time, this put Norfolk on top 1-0. The home run was registered at 112 MPH off the bat.

Henderson went 1-for-4 on the night and is now 5-for-16 (.313) in four rehab appearances for the Tides. While he is expected to wrap up his rehab assignment in the next 24 hours, it has been nothing short of a pleasant visit from the former American League Rookie of the Year.

Jud Fabian also had himself a nice night with that bat, going 2-for-4 with his first home run of the season. "The Machin," Vimael Machin, went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in the top of the fifth.

The pitching did its job as well for the most part. Right-hander Kyle Brnovich made his Tides debut and went four innings in the start, allowing just two earned runs while striking out seven and holding the Knights to just four hits and a lonely walk. It is a nice Triple-A debut for the 27-year-old who got the promotion after posting a 1.120 WHIP last season for the Baysox.

Carlos Tavera, Colin Selby, and Corbin Martin combined for three shutout innings out of the bullpen. They combined for three punchouts and did not yield a hit to Charlotte. It was specifically a nice rebound outing for Martin, who got hit hard last Friday on Opening Night.

While Norfolk could not pull off a win, they still put together a solid, well-played baseball game that they look to use as a momentum builder going forward. They are back in action tonight at Charlotte with first pitch set for 6:35 pm EST. Righty Cameron Weston will make his Triple-A debut on the mound.
